    Advertising is a big deal in today's world, with social media being one of the main ways for companies to get exposure and sell their products. Social media advertising has become extremely popular. Companies can pay channels or accounts to advertise their products or even pay the social media company for banners. Engaging content to attract the user's attention and then send it to friends on the app. According to Pew Research Center, 7-in-10 Americans use social media to stay in touch, get news, and entertainment. It also tells what ages are on social media and gender. This helps companies know who to appeal to and how to get their products sold and bought. Posts, hashtags, and videos are all ways companies advertise their brand and products. There are many examples of social media advertising and how they reached their audience and did their job. 


Gillette's "The Best Men Can Be"

    In January 2019, Gillette released an ad on Youtube targeting manhood. The short film showed how men were insecure about showing their emotions, masculinity, and sexual harassment. These are all things that society doesn't like to talk about. The ad goes on to show positive masculinity. Users viewed this ad more than 30 million times. #GilletteAd was posted on social media more than 150 million times. The ad allowed an issue that needed to be discussed, and it also allowed Gillette to change from their previous branding to being there for all men, no matter their masculinity. 


The Death of Mr. Peanut: #RIPPeanut

    In January of 2020, Planter's announced on Twitter that the beloved mascot had died at the age of 104. After the tweet, a Youtube video was posted explaining the situation. Users could win snacks by replying to the tweet #RIPPeanut. Other companies like Dr.Pepper were even joining in. Planter's decided to do this with all of the celebrity deaths and the then-popular Endgame movie going viral with Tony Stark's death. Mr.Peanut was later born again as a baby nut and now posts on the Peanut Jr. Twitter account. 

 

    Advertising on social media is very essential for companies to show their products and get people's attention. Not only are these examples above ways of advertising, but there are so many different ways for ads to pop up on your social media and make you want to buy that product.
