HBO Max Targeting Gen Z
When it comes to streaming services, HBO Max is one of the top choices you have the opportunity to choose. Recently, their choice in movies and shows has been targeting Gen Z and Millenials. With Gen Z being the future, companies have to target this audience.
HBO Max was released in May of 2020, a perfect time since everyone was locked in their house due to Covid. It costs $9.99 a month with ads and $14.99 a month without ads. 43% of HBO Max users are less than 35. This helps HBO Max know what audience to target and create more young adult entertainment. About 90% of Gen Z households have a streaming service, and HBO Max wants to capture these viewers.
Most of the Gen Z shows and movies are primarily about societal issues. Everything is dark and sad, because this generation has been surrounded by dark and sad things. Gen Z doesn't care about the actors or actresses, they want what they find important and how the media should show the world they live in. Much of the shows and movies that HBO Max has on their streaming service fits the criteria for it to resonate with Gen Z.
One of HBO Max's new shows for Gen Z users, "Generation", has already gotten people's attention. It is about high schoolers who are learning about themselves and a look into their identities. Their parents don't understand them and although it does target Gen Z, it hasn't strayed far from the truth that no matter how much the world changes, the way teenagersact, never do.
"The Fallout", a new movie on HBO Max, targets Gen Z in even the trailer. It focuses on the aftermath of a school shooting. With Gen Z being surrounded by school shootings like Sandy Hook Elementary, or a more recent one, Oxford High School, it is a reality we must face.

Companies all over the world are trying to target Gen Z. Gen Z is the first generation that grew up with technology from the start. HBO Max is smart for targeting this audience. Streaming is very important, because they are used to having media at their fingertips. With Gen Z being the future, it is important for streaming services to target these audiences, especially if they want to stay relevant in the years to come.
